Description/Story:

ASP ZARAH Complete Document Written By Asmau Bint Abubakar

Description

"Surely we belong to Allah and to Him shall we return."

The young girl, dressed in a police uniform, was repeatedly reciting this phrase. Signs indicated that she had collapsed and water had been splashed on her to revive her. She regained consciousness, observing her position on the ground with her eyes shut and her face damp from the water. As attempts were made to help her up, she opened her eyes and saw Ammi, her father's younger sister, reaching out to touch her.

Ammi's face was swollen and pale from crying. Her eyes were red and almost hidden due to the swelling of her eyelids.

"Zarah, crying won't solve anything now. Come, bid them farewell so we can arrange for their burial quickly," Ammi spoke with a dry voice.

Zarah attempted to speak, but tears overtook her words, and she broke into a mournful sob that resonated with everyone present. Ammi took hold of her hand, gesturing towards the eight lifeless bodies, dressed in their final attire, lying in the dimly lit night. Zarah's hands were clasped behind her back, a feeble attempt to hold back more tears.

With trembling hands, she started to unveil the face of the first deceased person. Through her fresh stream of tears, she managed to utter, "My father, my mother, my three grandparents, my two younger brothers, and my little sister. May God bless you and my mother." Her cry was heart-rending, and after a pause, she tenderly adjusted the veil and then raised her hands to the heavens, beginning to pray.

"Oh Lord, Oh Lord, Oh Lord. Oh Ever-Living, Oh Self-Subsisting, I thank You in all circumstances. God, bear witness that I joined the police force solely to contribute to the restoration of my country. God, I strive to uphold Your laws and unintentionally transgress only what I don't know. My Lord, I am aware of Your love for these servants of Yours, which is why You've taken them from the loan You granted us. I embrace this trial with gratitude. Oh God, Your servants stand before You. Forgive them their sins, sins they may not even be aware of. Shower Your mercy upon them. O Allah, grant them a place in Your Paradise."

Even the men present in the courtyard shed tears, moved by Zarah's courage. Swiftly, the bodies were laid to rest and transported to their final resting places.

_Prior to this tragic incident._

The deep bond of friendship and loyalty between Malam Usmanu and Malam Adamu had blossomed into brotherhood, tracing its origins to their parents who had lived harmoniously. Their homes being close further nurtured this connection, and their children grew up loving each other, mirroring their parents' relationship. Hailing from the town of Deba in Gombe state, they continued to live there with their families.

Malam Usmanu was married to Fadimatu, and they had a son named Abdul_Jalal. Malam Adamu had two children, Sulaiman and Rumaisa, with his wife Aishatu. The children shared a close bond, engaging in activities together from childhood through adulthood.

Sulaiman, the eldest, resided in Gombe with his wife Safiyat (Momi) and their two children, Muhammad Jawwad and Nusaiba. He was a mineral businessman. Abduljalal lived in Bauchi town with his wife Zainab (Mami) and their three children: Abubakar Sadiq, Rahma, and Fatimah Zarah. He worked at the federal hospital in Bauchi state.

Rumaisa (Ammi) lived in Cairo with her husband, a businessman, and their two children, Muhammad Adil and Muhammad Shahid. Despite their geographical separation, the family remained deeply connected and regularly visited their parents in Deba.

Zarah's aspiration to become a policewoman had grown from witnessing injustice towards the vulnerable. Her parents supported this choice, even as it led her to hospitalization. An incident had left a lasting impact on her life.

_Bauchi City_
12:30 p.m.

The street, typically bustling with traffic on Fridays, had been blocked due to Friday prayers. Among the halted vehicles was the one carrying Zarah from the market.
