She questions his actions and laments the deterioration of his education, both secular and religious.

BB, nursing his wounded stomach, is taken aback by Alhaji Sule's persistent anger and attempts to escape. However, Haj Mara intervenes, pleading for mercy and expressing concern for her child's well-being. Alhaji Sule remains determined, his anger fueling his actions, until Haj Mara successfully blocks his path.

Alhaji Sule suggests going to the hospital to check on Mawadda's health, as he is determined to marry her regardless of any obstacles. Haj Mara claps her hands in amusement, revealing that she had sent Mawadda back to her village the previous day. Alhaji Sule's heart sinks, questioning Haj Mara's motives and actions.

Tempers rise, and Alhaji Sule confronts Haj Mara about her deceit. She justifies her actions by claiming that she saw Mawadda in BB's room and thought something had happened to her. She tries to prevent her son from retaliating physically against Alhaji Sule, insisting that it was all a misunderstanding.

Amidst the chaos, BB nervously laughs, aware of his mother's lies. Alhaji Sule wears a pained smile, realizing that his son is mocking him due to the revealing conversation he overheard. In frustration, Alhaji Sule resolves to leave without permission, instructing Haj Mara to find him in the car. He vows to visit Mawadda's house and, regardless of his age, marry her.

Haj Mara's pleas and apologies fall on deaf ears as Alhaji Sule departs, followed closely by her. At the edge of the stairs, she watches him ascend, realizing that she cannot bear the consequences of returning to Mawadda's hometown, Mawdda.

The narrative then transports the readers to the origin of Mawadda, her parents, and her village, Tariwa. Mawadda's father, Mal Fatihu Wali, is known for his skill in hat sewing. His peaceful life with his wife and four daughters takes an unexpected turn when his sister pleads for him to marry her eldest daughter, Sa'ade. Despite initial resistance, Fatihu reluctantly agrees, unaware of the turmoil this decision will bring.

The story explores the challenges faced by Sa'ade in her marriage to Fatihu. Struggling with poverty, the couple's relationship suffers, leading to their separation. Sa'ade returns to her village, Misau, while Fatihu is left to care for their daughter, Mawadda.

Years later, Mawadda falls ill, and the family's concern leads them to seek medical attention. As the family gathers at the hospital, a shocking revelation unfolds: Mawadda has been raped, resulting in severe injuries. The news leaves Ade, Mawadda's mother, in a state of disbelief and anguish, while Alhaji Sule and the rest of the family are stunned.
