Description/Story:

AMATULMALEEK Complete Document Written By Mamuh Gee

Description

She sat in silence, listening to her uncle's voice rising in anger and sorrow. Exhaustion was evident on his face, devoid of any hint of mercy or lightness.

Her mother, too, sat there, absorbing his words, her sadness palpable. Each time her mother endured these fights, it hurt her deeply.

Uncle Bellon himself knew when his soul was deteriorating. Each time he brought his basket of misfortune before them, they could feel the weight of it all, yet there was no stopping him.

The intensity of his argument and the harshness of his words brought tears to their eyes, but none of them wished to see their brother's tears.

Wiping sweat from his forehead with his oversized shirt, he repeated his final words, "If Abdulhameed goes back to school again, they'll bring him to me, and I'll take him to Kaisa's. I won't tolerate any more grief. If you can't stay where God has placed you and you're not your brothers' keepers, then leave or move forward; we won't endure it."

With that, he turned and left the room, leaving Dena to suffer through the argument needlessly. They were alone in their small space.

Their mother took a deep breath and let out a sigh. Glancing at Amatul Maleek, who was still sewing Abdulhameed's pants, she remained silent.

None of them spoke. Amatul Maleek, though burdened by her past, kept her emotions hidden deep within her heart.

Their mother remained wordless, swallowing back her tears, as Amatul Maleek didn't even glance her way.

Stealing a glance at her sister, Amatul Maleek continued sewing, the unspoken tension between them thickening the air.

One thought plagued their minds: why did their aunt Maamah always have to send them food and supplies, only to separate them and pull them away from the humiliation and disgrace they faced at their father's family's hands?

Every time their provisions ran low, her younger brother would go to his house and gather what they needed, ensuring they had enough to get by.

Their biggest surprise came each day when food arrived from Maamah's house. Yet, the moment they were gathered and settled, the two-day limit on their reprieve ended, and they were thrust back into the severity of their situation.

Their household consisted of their parents, their father's two wives, and their father's younger brother, each residing in their own home. But despite this, no one outside their family knew of their struggles. There was no one to turn to for help; everyone's burden outweighed their own strength.

They were the mainstays of the family, each with their own responsibilities. Their father, the youngest among them, worked for the government in the village's primary school. Their siblings Daya, Amatul Maleek, and the youngest, Amatun, named after their father Abdulhameed, all relied on him.

Before their father's passing, their household, especially Sanda Fulde's life, differed from the rest due to the favoritism shown to her mother by their father. Their father's efforts to ensure Naman's education stood out, despite the family's struggles, demonstrated his commitment to their well-being.

Amatul Maleek was the apple of her father's eye, a beacon of hope amidst the family's difficulties. Despite their parents' inability to solve their problems, their father never gave up on her education, striving to provide her with opportunities denied to the others.

He turned a deaf ear to any criticism regarding his daughter and Daya's lives, remaining steadfast in his commitment to their education.
